The Story Behind.
Quite long since my last blog post. A few topics came up in my mind and I even penned down some of them into my personal diary. But I was lazy to continue with that.
This time, I’m going to write up the story behind a photo that I took a few days before.
For the past few days (three days, actually), I was at Trivandrum to attend the 16th IFFK - International Film Festival of Kerala. As I want this blog post to be brief as much as it can, I'm not going to describe my whole experience of IFFK in here (though its 3 days :-D). So, let's jump to Day 3.
Day 3 - Part I
While walking from one theater to other, as usual, I'd my camera in hand. As it was a Sunday, the streets weren’t busy as it use to be. I was walking through the footpath of a pocket road, clicking some of the faces that came across.
As clicking, I saw this man walking towards me.
I took a few shots of him. But then, he saw me, gave a fierce look, walked towards me in rapid motion and stood just by my side. Neither did I panic, nor did I walk away. I stood there without taking my eyes off the viewfinder and randomly clicked the street for the next few seconds. I guess he got convinced that I was shooting something else in the streets and thus, he walked away.
But sadly, I wasn’t able to get a good shot of him. As you can see, even though he is focused, there are a few distractions in the background. But I couldn’t help it. As you know, the moments in the street will happen only once. You can’t re-create it. So when you're there, be there and click it.
Part II
After making a few more steps, on the other side of the road, I saw this man standing at the doorstep of a shop.
Now comes the interesting part. While taking his photo, he found me. (See image below)
But as I did earlier, instead of walking away or panicking, I stood there, gazed at the soda stack alongside and without taking my eyes from them, pointed the camera to it, looked through the viewfinder onto the *actual* subject and pressed the shutter.
See, as I stared at the soda stack, he also did the same. :-D
Now that I got the shot, I began to walk off before he encounters me. And as I turned, I heard someone (might be him) from behind making sounds (probably calling me) like 'sshhh..ssshhh'. But I didn't stop. I fastened my steps and crossed the street.
So the whole point is; even if you get caught while taking someone’s photo in the street, avoid eye contact, look into something else that’s beside them or look far behind and take photos. Also, when they look back or do something like that, remember not to laugh. They might consider it as offensive, thereby exacerbating the situation.
